Murcia and her culture.

Because of its border location, different cultures have confluded in the Murcia Region throughout history, which has undoubtedly contributed to the enrichment of its historical and artistic heritage.

Within this extensive heritage are several monuments, such as the prehistoric remains of the Bagil Dolmen and the paintings of the Cave of the Monigots in Calasparra, on the banks of the Segura River. Cartagena is one of the cities that stands out for preserving numerous vestiges of the Roman era, roads, public buildings and its famous Roman Theatre.
Of the early dawn of Christianity are remains of a paleocristic basilica in Algezares and the ruins of the Roman-Visigoda city of Begastri.
The Islamic presence left traces throughout the Bat geography; of them perhaps the most interesting for its conservation state and the data it provides on this culture is the urban set of Medina Siyasa, located in Cieza.

The Medievalo-Christian Murcia is represented in numerous castles, which jalonate the Guadalentín valley and the northwest Bat: the Alfysina Tower in Lorca, the fortress that in Moratalla raised the Order of Santiago; the defensive bastion of the Serrano people of Aledo.

During the Renaissance, many religious buildings were erected. A sample is the magnificent collegiate of Saint Patrick in Lorca or the Mudejar artisan of the Santa de Totana. From this time are interesting the Torres Vigías spread along the coast, built as a defense against the incursions of the Berber pirates. The splendor of the Baroque age is shown in civil works such as the Almudé, old grain posite and today the art center of the City of Murcia; or the malecon, the containment wall built to avoid the floods of the Segura River. Among the religious constructions are the Monastery of the Jeronyms, the baroque red marble façade of the Sanctuary of La Vera Cruz in Caravaca and the Palace of Guevara, located in Lorca.

The Neoclassical and modernist stage has its highest exponent in the Casino of Murcia; in the exceptional set of buildings distributed by the city of Cartagena, and in the very beautiful modernist market of La Union. The Cathedral of Murcia deserves a separate chapter. The 600 years that lasted its construction has caused an overlap of architectural styles. The magnificent Tower is the most representative symbol of the city.

Promotion and Cultural Development

The Autonomous Community of Murcia presents an extensive and varied cultural offer: Music, cinema, folklore, theatre, dance...
From the most traditional festivals such as the Festival de Cante de Las Minas, a competition that brings together the fans of flamenco singing in the mining town of La Unión. Even the Festival "La Mar de Musicas" passes through the summer the most prominent groups of the current musical panorama in Cartagena. Going through others of international reach, such as the International Mediterranean Folklore Festival that receives groups from all over the world in Murcia, or the San Javier International Theatre, Music and Dance Festival. It shows its commitment to the dissemination and promotion of culture. There are many competitions that cover different plastic manifestations.
